Medische zorg op zee

Medische zorg op zee

Although seafarers take part in regular medical examinations,  a crew member can unexpectedly become ill or an accident can occur onboard. Any subsequent treatment has to be carried out by the seafarers themselves: professional medical assistance or provisions are far away after all. ‘Medical Care and Medical First Aid are therefore important components of the Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW), and all seafarers are required to have a certificate in order to take action

Medische zorg op zee’ meets these STCW requirements and offers practical information, clear guidelines and support during training. This makes it an important reference work on board. Action protocols, description of the most common conditions on board and background information about the human body are extensively discussed. The medical procedures are supported with many images. Extensive communication with the Radio Medical Service (RMD) is also discussed, so that this contact runs efficiently and the RMD can offer the right support.
